The Lord of the Rings Trilogy is a series of works launched in 1954 by J.R.R. Tolkien, a professor of medieval English literature at Oxford University in England. It was released in the United Kingdom and the United States and even the world set off a furor, and then became a classic in the pantheon of Western fantasy literature, and has influenced several generations of readers. To date, The Lord of the Rings Trilogy has been translated into 25 different languages and has sold more than 90 million copies worldwide. Professor Tolkien created a magical society in the Middle Earth, with a sophisticated structure, inhabited by different races, and the hobbit teenager Frodo was involved in a battle between good and evil for the Ring, with courage and the help of friends, finally overcome the dark forces.

The story is unfolded by the holder of the Ring, Frodo, he inherited a ring in an unknowing situation, but found that the ring is the key to the Demon King's delay in ruling the world. He is also caught in a situation where good and evil are fighting over each other. After several twists and turns, he learns that he must carry the ring deep into the territory of the Demon King in order to destroy the root of all this evil in the volcano of doom.

So, under the leadership of the wizard Gandalf, an expedition of the Ring was formed by elves, dwarves, hobbits, rangers and humans to try to escort Frodo to the lair of the Demon King.

作者简介

约翰·罗纳德·鲁埃尔·托尔金（1892—1973）是牛津大学教授，古英语专家，写了不少小说，其中极为出名的是《霍比特人》（又译作《小矮人历险记》〈1937〉）与《魔戒》（1954—1955）。

托尔金是日耳曼人后裔，他的父系祖先十八世纪从萨克森移居英国，父亲是银行职员，母亲家族则是当地人。童年托尔金的家境窘迫，四岁时父亲客死他乡，十二岁时，母亲死于糖尿病，这在当时是不治之症。他与弟弟成了孤儿，由法兰西斯神父抚养。

John Ronald Reuel Tolkien was born on January 3, 1892, in Bloemfontein, South Africa. After serving in World War I, he embarked upon a distinguished academic career and was recognized as one of the finest philologists in the world. He was a professor of Anglo-Saxon at Oxford, a fellow of Pembroke College, and a fellow of Merton College until his retirement in 1959. He is, however, beloved throughout the world as the creator of Middle-earth and author of such classic works as The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings. He died on September 2, 1973, at the age of eighty-one.
