作者介绍：

约翰·罗纳德·瑞尔·托尔金（John Ronald Reuel Tolkien，1892－1973），英国作家、诗人、语言学家，牛津大学教授。1892年1月3日出生于南非的布隆方丹，3岁时随家人回英国定居。1910年考入牛津大学，获艾克赛特学院奖学金，主修盎格鲁-撒克逊语，并于1915年毕业。1925年至1959年，先后担任牛津大学彭布罗克学院和默顿学院的教授。1972年荣获英国女王伊丽莎白二世授予的大英帝国司令勋章（CBE）。他有感于不列颠民族创世神话的匮乏，创作了一系列以中土世界为背景的神话故事。代表作有长篇小说《霍比特人》《魔戒》《精灵宝钻》。1973年9月2日在牛津逝世，享年81岁。
