苏州紫阳书院是江苏省苏州中学的前身，清康熙五十二年由理学家、江苏巡抚张伯行仿福州鳌峰书院的先例而创办，地址在府学尊经阁后。紫阳书院虽说开办时间较晚，却由于其规模、影响，特别是由于聘请了众多名人学者掌院，在一百九十一年办学史上共有二十八位山长，其中彭启丰、石韫玉两位是状元，邹福保、冯桂芬两位是榜眼，蒋元益是会元，清一色的进士出身，规格之高，全国书院所仅见。又集中了大批大儒，理学、经学家讲学，培养了众多全国一流的学人，如钱大昕、王鸣盛、董国华、王昶、汪存宽、钱策、曹仁虎等，其中彭启丰、石韫玉、吴钟骏、钱綮、陆润庠为状元，邹福保、王鸣盛是榜眼。紫阳书院以其出色的办学成就雄踞东南，名扬天下，成为跻身全国一流的省城书院。尤其是书院形成的优良的办学传统、行之有效的办学经验和措施，薪火相承，直传至今，成为苏州中学宝贵的精神遗产。 苏州紫阳书院据说曾编过一部院志，失传了，颇为可惜。现在的《紫阳书院志》是由我校退休教师杨镜如花了一年多时间、精力编写的，搜罗广泛翔实，难能可贵。该书横向以人物为纬，辅以碑刻，纵向以概述、大事记为经，经纬交织，给人以立体、完整的印象。 编写校史是为了回顾以往，总结经验，发扬传统，更好地前进。《紫阳书院志》的编成，是苏中校史上的一件大事，填补了空白，是该校校本教材建设的一个重大突破，对苏州中学今后的发展有很重要的现实意义，对苏州的教育界也同样具有借鉴的作用。 《紫阳书院志》是献给苏州中学“双庆”盛典的一份厚礼，为“双庆”活动增添了光彩。这《千年府学（卷1）：紫阳书院志（1713-1904）》是“府学千年”的一个分册，我们期待着“府学千年”的姊妹篇，另一个分册--《苏州府学志》早日诞生。 愿苏州中学师生借“双庆”的契机，努力奋斗，为实现“国内一流，国际先进”的目标，创造出无愧于前人的更辉煌的业绩。 |
